Dr. Contreras was born and raised in Stockton, California. He graduated from the University of the Pacific with a B.S. in pharmacy and attended Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN. He received his ophthalmological training at Meharry Medical College and has accumulated over 30 years of expertise in cataract, glaucoma, and ophthalmic manifestations of diabetes. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology. He joined Turlock Eye Physicians Medical Group in 2012.
Dr. Contreras served as Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Dameron Hospital in Stockton (2001-2011). He has also served as Head of Ophthalmology at the community-oriented Su Salud health and education fair in Stockton. Su Salud was recognized by former President George H. Bush as among the one thousand “Points of Light” – a premier volunteer organization across the country.
